  • Do High Tide bars contain any allergens?
All allergens intentionally present in our bars are clearly highlighted in bold on the ingredients label. In our commitment to transparency and prioritising your safety, we include potential allergens on our label. Due to constraints in controlling external manufacturing processes, our bars may contain certain allergens. While we take measures to minimise the risk of allergen cross-contamination—such as thorough cleaning of kitchen utensils and surfaces before and after each batch production—manufacturing our bars in a shared kitchen prevents us from claiming with absolute certainty that our bars are completely free from cross-contamination of other ingredients used in the kitchen. Therefore, our bars may contain traces of, or include, celery, gluten, mustard, nuts, peanuts, sesame, soya, dairy, eggs and/or sulphur dioxide. Seaweed, in its natural state, is a marine plant and doesn't inherently contain molluscs, crustaceans, or fish. However, cross-contamination can occur during harvesting, processing, or packaging. Therefore, while seaweed itself is not a mollusc, crustacean, or fish, if you have a severe allergy to these seafood types, It is your responsibility, using the information provided, to determine whether a product is safe for consumption based on your known allergens.
  • Do High Tide bars contain gluten?
The individual ingredients used in High Tide Seaweed Bars are inherently gluten-free. However, due to the complexities of our shared kitchen environment and external factors beyond our control, we cannot provide an absolute guarantee that our bars are entirely free from gluten cross-contamination. Although we exclusively use gluten-free oats in our bars, it's important to note that oats and wheat belong to the same botanical family. Additionally, oats contain avenins, proteins that can trigger coeliac disease in a small percentage of individuals. While pure uncontaminated oats are generally safe for most people with coeliac disease, the risk of cross-contamination during the supply chain processes (such as harvesting, transport, storage, and processing) and during the manufacturing of our bars remains a consideration. To adhere to regulated allergenic food standards outlined in Annex II of the FIC Regulation, we emphasise the reference to oats in our ingredients list, including bold formatting. This practice extends to gluten-free oats (e.g., Ingredients: gluten-free oats).
  • Are High Tide bars vegan?
While our bars are crafted from entirely plant-based ingredients, it's important to note that, due to the inclusion of seaweed, there may be minimal traces of shellfish or crustaceans. Hence we cannot guarantee with absolute certainty that our bars are suitable for vegans.
  • I have a known thyroid disorder, can I eat High Tide bars?
Our bars contain kelp and dulse seaweeds. Seaweed naturally contains high amounts of iodine. Individuals with a known thyroid disorder, particularly hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, should exercise caution when consuming seaweed. Seaweed is known to be a rich source of iodine, an essential mineral that plays a crucial role in thyroid function. However, iodine in deficiency or in excess, especially in susceptible individuals, can have adverse effects on thyroid health. Here are some considerations for individuals with thyroid disorders regarding seaweed consumption: Iodine Content: Seaweed can vary significantly in its iodine content. Some types of seaweed, such as kelp, can have very high iodine levels. Excessive iodine intake can worsen thyroid disorders. Individual Sensitivity: People with thyroid disorders may have varying sensitivities to iodine. While some individuals may tolerate moderate amounts of iodine, others may be more sensitive and react negatively to higher levels. Consultation with Healthcare Provider: Individuals with thyroid disorders should consult their healthcare provider or an endocrinologist before adding seaweed, iodine supplements or products (including our High Tide Seaweed bars) to their diet. A healthcare professional can provide personalised advice based on the specific type and severity of the thyroid disorder. Monitoring Iodine Intake: For individuals with thyroid disorders, it's essential to monitor overall iodine intake from all dietary sources, including salt, seafood, and supplements. Excessive iodine intake, combined with iodine-rich foods, could contribute to thyroid dysfunction. Seaweed Supplements: Some individuals may take seaweed supplements for their potential health benefits. These supplements should be approached with caution, and healthcare advice should be sought before their use. Cooking Methods: The method of cooking can impact iodine levels. For example, boiling seaweed may reduce iodine content compared to consuming it raw. In summary, while seaweed can be a nutritious food source, individuals with thyroid disorders should approach its consumption cautiously and seek guidance from healthcare professionals. Regular monitoring of thyroid function and maintaining open communication with healthcare providers are essential for individuals managing thyroid conditions.
  • How much iodine is in each bar?
Quantifying the exact amount of iodine in a product containing seaweed, such as our High Tide Seaweed bars which contain kelp and dulse, can be challenging due to several factors: Variability in Seaweed Species: Different species of seaweed contain varying amounts of iodine. Seaweed is a diverse group of marine plants, and the iodine content can differ significantly among species. Geographical Variability: The iodine content in seaweed can be influenced by the geographic location where it is harvested. The iodine concentration in seawater can vary, impacting the iodine uptake by seaweed. Seasonal Variations: The iodine content in seaweed can also vary seasonally. Factors such as temperature, sunlight exposure, and nutrient availability can influence the iodine content. Harvesting and Processing Methods: The way seaweed is harvested, processed, and prepared for consumption can affect its iodine content. Different processing methods may lead to variations in iodine levels. Iodine Volatility: Iodine is a volatile element, and its content in seaweed can change during drying and processing. Losses may occur due to volatilisation. Analytical Challenges: Analysing iodine in seaweed is technically challenging. The presence of other compounds in seaweed can interfere with analytical methods, and specialized techniques are often required for accurate measurements. Diversity of Compounds: Iodine in seaweed is present in various forms, including inorganic iodine, iodide, and organic iodine compounds. Each form may require a different analytical approach. Due to these complexities, researchers and food regulators often use sophisticated analytical methods, to quantify iodine accurately. At the moment we do not have access to such technologies however we hope to be able to provide such information in the future. Hence, at the moment, we advise individuals who may be sensitive to iodine or those who need to regulate their iodine intake for health reasons, to either not consume our bars, or do so at their own risk-benefit assessment.

  • Why is protein important in a snack?
Protein plays a fundamental role in the body's growth and repair processes. It serves as the essential building blocks (amino acids) for various aspects such as skin, hair, nails, tissues, muscles, organs, blood cells, immune cells, and hormones. Therefore, protein is a vital nutrient, even for those leading a sedentary lifestyle. For individuals who are active and engage in regular exercise, the need for protein is increased to support muscle growth and facilitate recovery. Additionally, protein plays a key role in stabilising blood sugar levels and serves as a satiating macronutrient, promoting a sustained feeling of energy and satisfaction. 7g of plant-based natural protein is found in each 50g High Tide Seaweed bar.
  • What is the best way to store the bars?
